lincoln at the movies: exploring the cinematic legacy of america’s sixteenth president
(in progress!)
Lincoln at the Movies is a collection of essays by many of the most influential scholars in Civil War history. The fundamental goal of the book is to decode how studio productions—from Hollywood blockbusters to art house pictures—have influenced Lincoln’s broader legacy within American culture and politics over the course of a century. Put another way, the book is designed to reveal how movies have programmed us to remember, invoke, revere, despise, and mythologize Lincoln in the present.
The book’s filmography includes:
Abraham Lincoln (1930)
Young Mr. Lincoln (1939)
Abe Lincoln in Illinois (1940)
The Tall Target (1951)
The Lincoln Conspiracy (1977)
The Conspirator (2010)
Lincoln (2012)
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (2012)
